State 'Farm Stops Program' helps butcher startup in Charlotte

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Eaton Meat, a butcher startup in Charlotte, is receiving help from the Meals Hub and Farm Stops Program, a Michigan-based grant alternative that helps promote native meals suppliers.

(WLNS)

The Michigan Division of Agriculture and Rural Growth (MDARD) says the Farm Stops is the state’s first-ever program aimed toward strengthening Michigan`s middle-of-the-supply-chain agri-food methods.

Ryan Garn, part-owner of the butcher store, runs it with the assistance of his son, Collin, and the remainder of his household. MDARD awarded them $50,000 to advertise the expansion of regionally sourced meals.

“So this is local. This is all local. Everything that you find in our store is local, and what it means is we’re not full of hormones. We’re natural. We’re doing things that we believe is the right way to do it. It’s a healthy option. The commercial meats,” mentioned Garn.

State ‘Farm Stops Program’ offers out $340k to homegrown companies

Garn says they will use the funds in direction of refrigeration and chilly storage. He says with out the grant, they could have by no means been in a position to open.

“They are trying to do it in other communities, and if we didn’t have a grant that went towards the refrigeration, we may not have been able to do this,” mentioned Garn.

On the finish of the day, he says it is all about household.

“We’re from Charlotte. My kids went to Charlotte. I went to Charlotte, and we just wanted to bring the community to our house. So this is a farm in our community. It’s like being at our table.”

Garn says the response from the neighborhood has been extremely constructive. The butcher will open on Saturday, August twenty third.
