Charity group raises $23.5K in medical debt reduction for Northern Michigan

Charity group raises .5K in medical debt reduction for Northern Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Keweenaw Indivisible, a grassroots charity group in Michigan’s Higher Peninsula, raised greater than $23.5K to assist relieve medical debt for greater than 1,300 households in Michigan’s first congressional district.

U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed mentioned his marketing campaign raised greater than $3,600 to assist the trouble.

Michigan’s first congressional district consists of all the Higher Peninsula and elements of the Decrease Peninsula. The district is at the moment represented within the U.S. Home by Rep. Jack Bergman (R-Watersmeet), who has served in his seat since 2017.

El-Sayed is the previous director of Wayne County’s Division of Well being, Human, and Veterans Providers. He was additionally a well being officer for Detroit and beforehand ran in Michigan’s 2018 race for governor as a progressive Democrat, however misplaced to Gretchen Whitmer. El-Sayed was endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Whitmer gained the 2018 election towards Republican Invoice Schuette.
