Michigan State College hosts third annual tribute stroll

Michigan State College hosts third annual tribute stroll

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Many Spartans are aware of the names of the three college students who misplaced their lives within the mass taking pictures at Michigan State College in February 2023. These college students, together with others who misplaced their lives whereas attending the college, have been honored on Saturday as a part of the third annual MSU Scholar Memorial Tribute Bushes Stroll & Reflection Occasion.

Households and associates honored their family members by visiting the 12 memorial timber throughout campus, inserting roses at every of their plaques. “Always a Spartan, forever a Spartan” was the sentiment shared all through the occasion.

Over 130 Spartans have been honored through the tribute stroll.

“Being able to work with the families, and their friends, as well as guardians to be able to make sure that the students are remembered and that they’re always part of the university because it is really important that we recognize every Spartan all the time,” mentioned Dr. Allyn Shaw, the dean of scholars for MSU.

Lots of those that attended have been honoring fallen family members, together with Meredith Renzulli, whose brother died in 2018.

“He only was here for one semester, but it was like the most fun I’ve had at college with my little brother. He followed me to MSU from New Jersey. Just we’ve always been extremely close,” mentioned Renzulli.

The college crops a brand new tree annually to make sure the reminiscence of those college students is rarely forgotten, together with the daughter of Michelle Lapierre.

“She was a dancer, so she was always dancing and she had a great sense of humor. She was always making me laugh and I really miss that about her.”

Lee Conley was in attendance to honor his daughter, Ashlee. “She was a perfect daughter. Ashlee was a senior here at Michigan State in the veterinary school. It’s almost therapeutic for me right to be able to know that. I could say some words here to, to some, also grieving parents.” 

Lapierre desires to remind folks to look out for each other, “Just check on your friends, make sure everybody’s OK, even people that seem OK. They’re not always OK. So please check in with your friends.”
