HB 4362 would change that, letting Silver Alerts to be despatched out by means of the federal Wi-fi Emergency Alert System, and permitting the general public to obtain these alerts immediately on their cellphone.

To ensure that a Silver Alert to be issued, native legislation enforcement must report the person lacking to MSP and request they challenge an alert.

In keeping with State Rep. Gina Johnsen (R-Portland), who launched the invoice, implementation of the Silver Alert wouldn’t require important measures resembling creating a brand new division or allocating extra state funding.

“Getting answers fast is absolutely critical in these tragic instances,” Johnsen stated. “This bill ensures information gets out fast and directly to the public, where it can make the most difference.”
