New invoice to decrease grocery costs launched

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens has introduced new laws, generally known as the “No Tariffs on Groceries Act,” that seeks to decrease grocery costs amid the impacts of tariffs.

“We are in an affordability crisis,” Stevens mentioned throughout a digital information convention on Wednesday.

Stevens studies that meals costs in Michigan have elevated for espresso (20.9%), beef (16.6%), eggs (10.9%), apples (9.6%), bacon (7.2%), bananas (6.6%), and oranges (5.2%).

“We are seeing right now, from these reckless tariffs, direct impacts on food costs. They are going up because of tariffs,” Stevens mentioned.

“What my bill does is it says that this president cannot put in place blanket tariffs on countries for food without congressional approval,” Stevens added. “When it comes to putting food on the table, when it comes to feeding yourself, no president should be able to act alone without oversight or authorization.”
