Chinese language New Yr Celebration brings group collectively

OKEMOS, Mich.(WLNS) — Folks gathered on the Meridian Mall for a pageant in celebration of the Chinese language New Yr on Sunday afternoon.

That is the tenth 12 months the mall has hosted the occasion, which had many facets of Chinese language Tradition on show, together with a number of performances of various conventional dances. 

Lansing Mayor Andy Schor was a visitor speaker and spoke on the significance of Chinese language tradition inside the mid-Michigan space.

Linda Lin, president of the Higher Lansing Chinese language Affiliation, who hosted the occasion, says the pageant celebrates household and group. 

“It’s exciting to see so many people gathering together,” said Lin. “It’s building the bond within the community.” 

Elyse Ribbons, vice chairman of the affiliation, says the pageant highlights the significance of experiencing completely different cultures. 

“The important thing about this holiday is that it’s a moment of rebirth and renewal, especially the year of the wood snake,” said Ribbons. “So, it’s a good opportunity for everyone. Whether or not you’re ethnically Chinese to sort of get another opportunity to restart again.”

Chinese language New Yr, additionally known as Lunar New Yr, lasts for 15 days, and 2025 is the 12 months of the snake. The colour pink is historically worn and symbolizes good luck. 

Lunar New Yr can also be celebrated in lots of different Asian nations.
