DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLNS) — Neighborhood leaders and fireplace firefighters held a ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday to have fun a $7.5 million renovation of the township’s fireplace station.

The cash got here from a state finances allocation and can assist broaden the constructing, first constructed in 1996, by including an extra tools bay and a second story to accommodate dorms for firefighters.

Delhi Township Hearth Chief Brian Ball says the renovations will carry the power to a state-of-the-art degree, lowering exposures to potential cancer-causing brokers whereas additionally permitting the women and men of the division to sleep on the facility in non-public dorm rooms.

These renovations, Ball says, will broaden the division’s recruitment efforts.

“Which will increase the inclusivity of the fire department — which is important to me,” he says. “Also, hopefully, will attract more of our upcoming talent to the fire department. Just so they can see that we here at Delhi Township are very cognizant of being inclusive of all our male and female firefighters to work here and feel comfortable.”

When the present station was constructed in 1996, Delhi Township operated with solely part-time firefighters. The division now employs 15 full-time firefighters and paramedics, in addition to 5 supervisors and help employees. A further 15 part-time and paid-on-call firefighters are a part of the group.

Ball says development might take between 10 to 16 months, however he is hoping will probably be accomplished in 12 months.
