Gillian Anderson warns UK homelessness ‘will solely worsen’

Gillian Anderson has warned homelessness is a rising downside within the UK – one that can solely worsen if we enter a recession.

Born in Chicago, and now dwelling in London, she defined: “I’m used to seeing it so much in Vancouver and California and other areas that I spent time. You don’t often see it as much in the UK.”

Her co-star within the movie, White Lotus actor Jason Isaacs, chips in: “You do now.”

The movie relies on Raynor Winn’s 2018 memoir, which depicts her and her husband’s 630-mile trek alongside the Cornish, Devon and Dorset shoreline, strolling from Minehead, Somerset to Land’s Finish.

Written from her notes on the journey, The Salt Path went on to promote over one million copies worldwide and spent almost two years in The Sunday Occasions bestseller checklist. Winn’s since written two extra memoirs.

Shot in 2023 throughout Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Wales, Anderson says as a city-dweller, the places had an affect on her.

Anderson reveals: “As I’ve gotten older, I have become more aware of nature than […] when I was younger, and certainly in filming this film and being outside and so much of nature being a third character, it did shift my thinking around it.”

Isaacs says the writer informed him: “I feel like there’s three characters in the film,” occurring, “I thought she was going to say nature, but she said, ‘No, that path'”.

“The issues that occur on that path had been an enormous a part of their very own private story and hopefully the viewers’s journey as properly.”

The Salt Path involves UK cinemas on Friday 30 Might.
