JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — Tariffs on metal are set to impression many in Mid-Michigan, and in Jackson, companies are bracing for these adjustments.
“There’s a lot of unknowns from a manufacturer standpoint, as well as a consumer standpoint,” stated David Flack, President of Gross sales at Salco Manufacturing, the place employees produce metal, wire, and car-based merchandise.
Metal and aluminum tariffs are set to double from 25% to 50%.
“That affects our margin drastically because, you know, all those jobs and everything were quoted based on, you know, a set number, and now we’re looking at an extra 25% that was put on to that,” Flack stated.
The impression of the tariffs is likely one of the predominant elements that Flack says is driving the auto business proper now.
“There’s a lot of growth and innovation and outside factors that drive what the American auto industry is going to be,” Flack stated. “Obviously being right in the heart of it, we hope that it comes together, and, you know, we keep moving forward.”
Whereas Flack says the tariffs do not impression the metal employees themselves, he does say you would see the impression of the tariffs on the grocery retailer shelf.
“I don’t really see it benefiting the steel worker that much,” Flack stated. “The aluminum cans, the tin cans that carry your soda or, you know, canned vegetables, things along those lines. I would think that that would have a direct impact on them.”
Flack says it’s at the moment unclear if the transfer will have an effect on partnerships with mills situated exterior of the USA.
