Jackson mayor confirms niece was shot in July

Jackson mayor confirms niece was shot in July

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney confirmed his niece, Mia Sims, was shot and killed in late July.

Sims, 18, was shot close to the United Peoples Church in Jackson.

“He shot my niece while she was at church,” Mahoney wrote on social media. “She went outside to get pancakes her grandmother made for her and never returned back in to the church. She was 18, she just graduated high school. Now her killer is just out here.”

No arrests have been made in reference to this murder. Anybody with any info is requested to contact Detective Thomas Tinklepaugh at 517-768-8637.
