Lansing space locals put together to ring within the new yr

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — New 12 months’s Eve is right here, a time to rejoice the final yr and look ahead to the subsequent. One East Lansing bar has huge plans to welcome within the new yr.

“A buffet, and we’re gonna do a champagne toast at midnight, also we’re doing some live music here as well so it should be pretty exciting,” says Rudy Richmond, assistant basic supervisor of Jolly Pumpkin. “This is our first year being open for New Year’s Eve, so it’s kind of exciting for us.”

New 12 months’s Eve is not only a huge day for the purchasers. Richmond says his enterprise counts on the day in a monetary sense, too.

“Actually, this is usually the last hurrah before January starts because of everybody’s New Year’s resolutions,” says Richmond. “This is our one to put in the bank, big night to put in the bank, so we try to do what we can.”

Whereas there will likely be loads of partying, that is not everybody’s cup of tea. Some favor a quieter celebration.

“I do not like going out, and I’m not going out in this weather definitely,” says Ash Gregg, an East Lansing resident. “My plan is to stay in, eat a bunch of junk food and then pass out at midnight.”

For individuals who are planning on braving the weather, having a great time is okay, however drunk driving is not—and the Lansing Police Division will likely be cracking down.

“So we are going to have increased patrols on New Year’s Eve, specifically to address people that are driving under the influence, to make sure that those who make those poor decisions are gonna be held accountable,” says Rob Backus, chief of the Lansing Police Division.

Richmond agrees that security comes first.

“You don’t ever wanna start a new year off with like a tragedy or anything like that so it’s always nice to plan ahead,” says Richmond. “Our thing is we want everybody to have a safe, fun time and that includes getting home as well.”

In the event you’re planning on consuming, use a ride-share app like Uber or Lyft to get house, or have a chosen driver.
