London Underground staff to strike for seven days in September

London Underground staff will stage a collection of strikes for seven days subsequent month in a dispute over pay and situations.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) stated its Tube members will take industrial motion at totally different occasions from 5 September.

The union claimed administration had refused to interact critically with its calls for on pay, fatigue administration, shift patterns and a discount within the working week.

In a separate dispute over pay and situations, RMT members on London’s Docklands Mild Railway may also be placing within the week starting 7 September.

RMT basic secretary Eddie Dempsey stated: “Our members are doing a implausible job to maintain our capital transferring and work strenuous shift patterns to ensure Londoners get to their locations across the clock.

“They are not after a King’s ransom, but fatigue and extreme shift rotations are serious issues impacting on our members’ health and wellbeing – all of which have not been adequately addressed for years by LU management.

“Coupled with the very fact there are excellent points round employees journey preparations, an environment of mistrust has been created, the place our members really feel like no-one is listening to them.

“RMT will continue to engage LU management with a view to seeking a revised offer in order to reach a negotiated settlement.”

A Transport for London spokesperson stated: “We regularly meet with our trade unions to discuss any concerns that they may have, and we recently met with the RMT to discuss some specific points.

“We’re dedicated to making sure our colleagues are handled pretty and, in addition to providing a 3.4% pay improve in our ongoing pay discussions, we’ve made progress on numerous commitments we’ve made beforehand.

“We welcome further engagement with our unions about fatigue and rostering across London Underground, but a reduction in the contractual 35-hour working week is neither practical nor affordable.

“Given the enhancements we’ve not too long ago put in place in response to considerations raised by our unions, we urge the RMT to place our truthful, reasonably priced pay supply to their members and to proceed to interact with us quite than threaten strike motion, which is able to solely disrupt Londoners.”
