Niece of Kenyan girl allegedly murdered by British soldier meets with Defence Secretary

The niece of a Kenyan girl allegedly murdered by a British soldier has met with the UK’s Defence Secretary to combat for the accused man’s extradition.

Esther Njoki, 21, was eight-years-old when her aunt Agnes Wanjiru, 21, was discovered lifeless in 2012.

Her physique was found in a resort septic tank near a British Military base in Nanyuki, Kenya, two months after her disappearance.

Kenyan prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for the British soldier accused of the homicide. He has been dwelling freely within the UK since.

As we speak, Esther, who’s the household’s spokesperson, held a gathering with Defence Secretary John Healey to make the case for him to be extradited to Kenya.

“It doesn’t matter where I come from. I come from the same background Agnes came from. I know they took advantage because my family was not able.

“I do know issues are altering since I stepped as much as say what is occurring and holding the federal government accountable.”

She added: “If we will change the complete system, I believe we’ll safe an excellent future for different generations as a result of my household has needed to undergo hell.”

Mr Healey, who beforehand met Ms Njoki in April 2025 throughout a go to to Kenya, paid tribute to Esther and mentioned the federal government would assist the Kenyan investigation.

He mentioned: “I want to pay tribute to Esther, who is an extraordinary spokesperson for her family, and for women who have suffered violence.

“Our authorities will proceed to do the whole lot we will to assist the Kenyan investigation, safe a decision to this case and eventually deliver peace to Esther and her grieving household.”
