Police in Melbourne hunt vandals after practically 200 timber and shrubs destroyed

Police in Australia are attempting to find vandals who’ve destroyed practically 200 timber and shrubs, together with some “very rare” species.

The crops have been both ripped out of the bottom or snapped or lower on the base with a hand noticed, in accordance with Glen Eira Metropolis Council, a suburb within the southeast of Melbourne.

The council stated in an announcement it was “extremely disappointed and disgusted at the deliberate acts of vandalism” at eight parks and reserves.

It added that police within the state of Victoria are investigating.

“Some of these trees are very rare and may not be able to be replaced, including the Red Gums at Boyd Park which were grown from seeds,” the council stated.

Native residents described the destruction as “senseless”, “devastating” and “heartbreaking” by way of the council’s Fb web page.

One individual added: “So bewildering as to why people would do this!”

The council stated the vandalism would price taxpayers 1000’s of Australian {dollars}.

It stated: “Each tree is valued at around $700 (£354) cost to purchase, plant and establish with a combined cost of $80,000 (£40,520).

“Additional prices for restore and replanting of the places outcome within the complete price of this vandalism to almost $200,000 (£101,300).”

Officers identified the utmost sentence for prison harm is 10 years in jail or a wonderful of as much as $218,000 (£110,417).

The council has appealed for anybody with details about the vandalism, between 25 and 27 October, to contact the police.
