Strike averted: UMH-Sparrow nurses attain contract settlement

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Unionized nurses and healthcare professionals at College of Michigan Well being-Sparrow have reached a contract settlement as we speak, finally averting the deliberate strike scheduled for Jan. 20.

“Our fellow members have been very passionate about their priorities throughout these months of bargaining. Our union is a democracy, and we look forward to having our fellow members vote on whether to accept this contract agreement, which we wholeheartedly recommend.”

‘What we have to do:’ UMH-Sparrow nurses set to strike

Highlights of the settlement – in accordance with the union – embody:

•    Aggressive wage will increase, with most members receiving between a 20% and 32% elevate in the course of the time period of the settlement. •    Massive will increase in differentials together with the evening shift, night shift, and weekend differentials.•    Vital ratification bonus. •    Assured healthcare plan that’s equal or higher to the union plan the employer is ending.•    Everlasting lower in the price of members’ premium contribution to BCBS beginning in 2026.•    New language guaranteeing no everlasting alternative of positions with subcontractors (company) and upkeep of open postings for these positions.•    Extending COVID protections for members at some point of the brand new settlement.•    Elevated advantages for workers injured by office violence. 

UMH-Sparrow and the Skilled Worker Council of Sparrow Hospital-Michigan Nurses Affiliation (PECSH-MNA) have been negotiating contract phrases since August. The roughly 2,000 staff represented by the union have been working with out contract since Oct. 30, and members voted virtually unanimously final month to authorize a strike.
