The World of King James VI and I on the Nationwide Galleries of Scotland

From April 26 to September 14, 2025, the Nationwide Galleries of Scotland current the exhibition “The World of King James VI and I”.

Supply: Nationwide Galleries of Scotland · Picture: James VI and I, 1566 – 1625. King of Scotland 1567 – 1625. King of England and Eire 1603 – 1625 1595. Nationwide Galleries of Scotland

Marking the 400-year anniversary of King James’s dying, this exhibition charts his exceptional reign by tales of friendship, household, feuds and ambition.

Drawing on themes with modern relevance together with nationwide identification, queer historical past, perception and spirituality, The World of King James VI and I is an enriching journey by the complicated lifetime of a King who modified the form of the UK. Over 100 objects are on show, together with ornate work, dazzling jewels, lavish designs and essential loans from galleries throughout the UK, celebrating craft and visible artwork from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
