1 week on strike: Eaton Aerospace staff maintain solidarity stroll

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — UAW Native 475 staff on strike at Eaton Aerospace in Jackson will maintain a solidarity stroll exterior the plant Monday afternoon.

The stroll comes one week after over 500 unionized workers on the plant went on strike after months of contract negotiations over what the union claims is a disconnect between firm earnings and proposed employee advantages.

“Eaton workers see the record profits and know it should mean a record contract,” stated UAW Area 1D Director Steve Dawes. “This corporation continues to funnel money to the top and then ask workers to sacrifice more. Our members see through that and are demanding their fair share of the profits.”

Retirement advantages proceed to be a significant level of disagreement between staff and the corporate. The union says that Eaton Aerospace is constant to push for a two-tier retirement system that will eliminate the employees’ pension and 401(okay) plans for brand new hires by the top of the contract.

Union members and supportive group members will start gathering exterior of the plant at 3 p.m., rallying for what the union calls a “fair contract that will preserve their right to retire, provide quality health care, and offer fair wages.”

“Eaton’s managers said they thought that we wouldn’t last the week. They didn’t understand the solidarity workers have with each other,” stated Donnie Huffman, president of UAW Native 475. “We know that Eaton has made billions while demanding changes to our retirement and denying us quality health care. We’re united and we won’t back down until we win what is fair.”
