New beds for the homeless at Holy Cross

New beds for the homeless at Holy Cross

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — One homeless shelter is increasing to assist these in want throughout the chilly winter months. 

Because the climate in Mid-Michigan slowly begins to alter, being exterior throughout the chilly winter nights may be harmful for individuals who have nowhere to go. 

Kimberly Coleman, Director of Human Relations and Companies says the shelter shall be including 70 to 100 new beds. 

She says there are two phases of the mission, which price a complete of $800,000.

The funding got here from the state which was given to town after which gifted to Holy Cross. 

She says part one will home 50 individuals in an current spot whereas they put together a bigger house for the remaining 20 individuals. 

Section one is projected to be finalized in November. 

“I’m more excited about the fact that we’re able to address the needs of those folks who are out in the elements,” said Coleman. “Not just during the winter months, but year round and it’s a long-term solution and not a short-term alternative solution. Which is what we were working toward.”

Coleman says the mission needs to be accomplished by December 2025.
