Jeff Stewart: Actor who performed Reg Hollis in The Invoice helps police arrest shoplifter

The actor who performed PC Reg Hollis in hit TV collection The Invoice has been praised by officers after serving to them arrest a shoplifter.

Jeff Stewart stepped in when a thief tried to flee on a bicycle in Southampton on Wednesday.

In a press release, a Hampshire Constabulary spokesman stated: “The thief, 29-year-old Mohamed Diallo, fell off the bike during his attempts to flee, before officers pounced to make their arrest.

“To their shock, native TV legend Jeff Stewart, who performed PC Hollis for twenty-four years in The Invoice, got here to their support by sitting on the suspect’s legs whereas officers put him in cuffs.

“In policing you should always expect the unexpected, but this really wasn’t on The Bill for this week.”

The Invoice was broadcast on ITV between 1984 and 2010 and featured the fictional lives of law enforcement officials from the Solar Hill police station in east London.

Mr Stewart, who was among the many authentic solid, appeared in additional than 1,000 episodes as PC Hollis.

In praising Mr Stewart’s actions, the power stated: “Long since retired from Sun Hill station – but he’s still got it.”

Police from the Bargate Neighbourhoods Policing Workforce have been alerted by workers at a Co-op retailer in Ocean Option to a suspected shoplifter on Wednesday.

Mohamed Diallo, 29, of Anglesea Highway, Southampton, was subsequently charged with 5 offences of theft regarding espresso, alcohol and meals from the Co-op and two different Sainsbury’s shops on three dates in April and July.

He pleaded responsible at Southampton Magistrates’ Courtroom on Thursday and was bailed to be sentenced on August 29.
