LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The town of Jackson has authorised a contract that may construct 4 new properties for low-income households with disabilities, officers say.

The hassle is a part of a partnership with building firm Norfolk Houses of Michigan, and the mission is to construct 4 new properties on city-owned heaps with a deal with prioritizing households with disabilities

The mission is made doable resulting from an $800,000 grant from the Michigan Housing Growth Authority, one designed to assist low-income households.

Officers say the properties might be given away with “no strings attached,” with households solely needing to pay utilities and property taxes.

The town will decide who will get the properties by means of a two-part software system, the primary together with questions on incapacity standing and revenue degree. The second is a randomized lottery contingent on passing the primary stage of the method.

“I always say that Jackson, our issues are not unique. We’re like a lot of other communities in Michigan, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have unique solutions to those issues, said city spokesman Aaron Dimick. “So, that is actually one thing that we’ve not carried out earlier than, the place we have created housing particularly for individuals with disabilities. So, it is undoubtedly a necessity in the neighborhood, and we’re blissful to be part of that, simply because we all know there’s a want for individuals to have housing that’s appropriate for a incapacity.”

The properties will embrace options like stepless entry, decrease mild switches, and wider doorways.

Building is ready to be accomplished, and the properties are anticipated to be occupied by April 2026.
