LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A decision to permit the Michigan Senate Majority Chief to sue the Speaker of the Home for failing to current payments to Governor Whitmer for her approval handed Wednesday.
Article IV, Part 33 of the Michigan Structure requires that each invoice handed by the total state legislature should be introduced to the governor for approval. Nevertheless, the decision says 9 payments that had been returned to the Home for presentation to Governor Whitmer have been intentionally delayed.
“Despite its constitutional duty, the House of Representatives hs failed to present those bills to the Governor and has advised, through the Speaker of the House, that it will continue holding the bills,” reads the decision. “The Constitution does not permit the House’s unilateral decision to delay presenting those bills to the Governor.”
Because of this, the Senate voted to permit Senate Majority Chief Winnie Brinks to take authorized motion to pressure the Home to current the 9 payments to the Governor.
Nevertheless, Senate Minority Chief Aric Nesbitt (R-Porter Township), isn’t in assist of the decision, calling it a “Dem stunt.”
“It is unfortunate for the people of Michigan that Democrats continue to be divisively partisan instead of working across the aisle with Republicans who are ready to focus on real solutions to the problems facing families across our state,” says Nesbitt. “Michigan is on the brink of economic disaster next month with 50,000 hospitality industry jobs at stake. While the House is working toward a bipartisan plan to avert this looming catastrophe, Senate Democrats are wasting time on a partisan political stunt.”
