Former Michigan Home Speaker, spouse to face trial for a number of felony expenses

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Former Speaker of the Michigan Home of Representatives Lee Chatfield and his spouse Stephanie Chatfield will stand trial, in line with Michigan Lawyer Normal Dana Nessel.

Chatfield, 35, will stand trial in Ingham County’s thirtieth Circuit Courtroom for a number of felony expenses, together with working a felony enterprise and embezzlement.

“Our investigation uncovered extensive evidence of elaborate schemes to embezzle and misappropriate private and public funds to bankroll Lee Chatfield’s lifestyle during his time as Speaker of the House,” Nessel stated. “I am glad to see this case finally move forward to a trial in Circuit Court. My office will continue to pursue public corruption with every tool at our disposal and push for stronger transparency and good governance in our state.”

Each have been charged with:

One depend of conducting a felony enterprise, a 20-year felony

One depend of conspiracy to conduct a felony conspiracy, a 20-year felony

Three counts of false pretenses, $1,000 or extra however lower than $20,000, five-year felonies

One depend of false pretenses, $20,000 or extra however lower than $50,000, a 15-year felony

One depend of embezzlement, $100,000 or extra, a 20-year felony

One depend of submitting a false tax return, a five-year felony

A pretrial date has not been set, in line with Nessel.
